Story Kings is a long-form webcomic following the story of Beelzebub: a non-speaking child soldier who escapes from the custody of a hyper-capitalist psuedochristo-fascist megacorporation named “Archangel,” and the lovable rag-tag team of dissidents who would give their lives to protect Beelzebub, even as the world itself changes around them. This comic is a more-than-a-decade long labor of love; an attempt at reaching out and connecting with human-kind. It’s a love letter to Lito’s home, his friends and family, his neighbors, and his planet.
This is a story about queerness, colonization, climate change, reclaiming identity, and healing your inner child; a multi-media experience with an original score, curated playlists, and a novelized transcript for broader accessibility. Along with the main story are four vignettes: each short story expanding on the history of one of the main couples. Their release will come at key points in the main story’s run.
Lito CL is a musician and artist hailing from the biggest island in the Lesser Antilles, also known as the smallest island in the Greater Antilles. After being forced to leave home at the age of 11, he moved to a “small” town in Virginia, USA, where if being mixed-race had been difficult before, it was now downright sacrilegious. Growing up, Lito often felt alone and disconnected from his racial, cultural, and queer identities. It was from this loneliness that many of Story Kings’ most important characters were born, serving as a way to unpack his trauma and personal demons. Through sheer force of Will and disability income, Lito CL brings you “Story Kings,” in hopes that you will feel loved as well as challenged as you confront the parts of yourself that are most difficult to process.
